About the Group
The Warsaw CELLONET Group was founded in 2007 with from the very beginning Andrzej Bauer as artistic leader and conductor. Many outstanding young Polish cellists, soloists of international recognition, laureates of international competitions and prizewinners of the Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition have combined their skills in CELLONET. Here art and virtuosity are inextricably linked with the goal of creative performing.
The Warsaw CELLONET Group often combines ancient and contemporary music into their concert programs. Among arrangements of madrigals of Gesualdo da Venosa one may hear premiere performances of new works commissioned by CELLONET. The group has also carried out projects with artists from the jazz and pop music scenes; singer Anna Maria Jopek, and pianists Leszek Możdżer and Marcin Masecki.
CELLONET has appeared at the Warsaw Autumn, Wrocław Musica Polonica Nova, Katowice World Premieres Polish Modern Music and Kody in Lublin music festivals, and together with Leszek Możdżer at the Poznań Enter and Toruń Artus jazz festivals. The group has performed abroad at the Contrasts Festival Lviv, Ukraine and during Witold Lutosławski Year 2013, at the Woven Words concert series, Royal Festival Hall, London. CELLONET’s concerts at the King’s Castle in Warsaw have inaugurated subsequent editions of the Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition.
The Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has supported International projects with Polish and Ukrainian composers which have subsequently led to performances in both countries.
The recording of Agata Zubel’s work for cello quartet on her composer’s album Cascando performed by members of CELLONET was awarded the Polish music industry award Fryderyk 2010 in the category contemporary music album.
The unique quality of CELLONET inspires new works from leading Polish composers including most recently, compositions from Wojciech Ziemowit Zych and Zaid Jabri.
The Warsaw CELLONET Group is planning to release their first full-time album in 2017.
